At just 18, Kjha’s life was turned upside down when she experienced her first seizure while driving. Over the following years, her condition worsened despite medication, leading to car accidents and fainting episodes, including one in front of her students. The seizures not only endangered her and others but also significantly impacted her quality of life and independence.
After more than a year of rigorous testing, Kjha’s doctor referred her to Dr. Hoeprich, a neurological surgeon at Kettering Health. He identified the source of her seizures and recommended laser ablation surgery to remove the brain abnormality causing them. The procedure was a resounding success.
“This has been life-changing,” Kjha shared emotionally. “The team’s compassion made all the difference. They listened to my concerns and calmed my fears, and that support meant everything during such a difficult time.”
Now 24, Kjha has returned to work and is looking ahead with optimism. Although she remains on medication as a precaution, she is seizure-free and eagerly anticipates regaining her driving privileges. With her newfound freedom, she is excited to pursue her dream career working with individuals with disabilities.
Kjha hopes her story will inspire others facing similar challenges. “I love sharing my story to show that overcoming this is possible,” she said. “And I want people to know just how much compassionate medical care can change lives.”
Her gratitude toward the epilepsy team at Kettering Health, especially Dr. Hoeprich, is immeasurable. “His nurses were so kind and helpful, and Dr. Hoeprich is truly amazing,” Kjha said. “Their work has positively impacted my life in ways I can’t fully express. They’ve given me a new lease on life, and I will forever be grateful for their expertise, dedication, and compassion.”
